Managed Pricing: How do I get the "Free" plan card to show on my app listing?

Hi everyone,

My app uses Managed Pricing and has a free plan that I want to be the only public plan. But my listing doesn’t show the standalone “Free” pricing card that other free-only apps display.

With Managed Pricing, what do I need to do to get that “Free” card to show on my listing?

Thanks!

Hi @AliFromDori! The standalone Free card on your listing comes from having a free public plan that’s fully set up under Shopify App Pricing (the new name for Managed Pricing), and the piece that catches most people is that the billing model and the plan description are saved separately.

A plan only renders on the listing if it has a description (Display name plus Top features) saved for the published language. So if you set Billing to Free but didn’t fill in the display name and features for your listing’s locale, the card won’t show even though the plan exists. To check, go to Distribution, then Manage listing, click Edit on your locale, open Pricing details, hit Manage, and under Public plans confirm there’s a plan with Billing set to Free that also has a Display name and Top features filled in for each language you publish.

If you have any usage-based or one-off charge plans in the config, the listing label logic changes and you can end up with “Free to install” instead of the clean Free display, per the App Store best practices. Assuming your free plan is the only public plan and it’s got a saved description, the card should appear. If it’s still not showing after that, let me know and I can take a closer look!

Thanks Donal! I’ve attached 2 screenshots to show where I’m at.

A couple of things I’m noticing: in the plan’s own Edit section there’s actually no field to set a Display name or description — those options don’t appear there at all. The Display name and Top features are set in the separate Pricing details area instead, and I’ve filled those in and saved them (you can see this in the screenshots).

So the free plan is my only public plan, billing is set to Free, and it has a saved Display name and Top features — but the standalone Free card still isn’t showing on my listing.

Since the description fields don’t live inside the plan editor on my end, I want to make sure I’ve got them saved in the right place. Could you take a closer look and let me know if I’m missing a step? Happy to send more screenshots if that helps.

Thanks for the screenshots Ali, that’s enough for us to take a closer look. Your pricing setup appears correct on our side, so the card not appearing on the live listing isn’t something you need to reconfigure.

I’ve raised this with the relevant team to confirm what’s expected here and whether anything needs fixing. I’ll follow up on this thread as soon as I hear back.

Hi Donal,

Thank you for raising this with the relevant team. Do you have any updates on what might be happening?

Our free-plan description explains its features and usage limits. We’re concerned that without this information appearing on the listing, merchants may misunderstand what is included, have a poor experience, or leave a negative review.

If possible, we’d really appreciate it if this could be prioritized or escalated for a faster resolution.

Thank you again for your help.
