Hi everyone, I’m planning to move my online store from WordPress (WooCommerce) to Shopify. I’m a bit concerned about how this migration might affect my store’s SEO and Google rankings. Has anyone here done a similar migration? What are the best practices to avoid losing traffic and rankings (like handling redirects, URLs, meta tags, etc.)? Any advice or tips would be really helpful. Thanks in advance! Store
Quick disclosure: I made WP Feed which embeds a WordPress blog into Shopify pages, so I’m biased on the “keep both” path.
If your blog is the bulk of your organic traffic, the highest-risk move is moving the content. Two patterns that minimize SEO drop: (1) full migration with 1:1 redirects from /blog/post-slug to /blogs/news/post-slug, plus rewriting internal anchors to the new domain structure before the cutover, plus a fresh sitemap submission; (2) keep the WordPress blog on a subdomain or subdirectory and embed selected posts into Shopify pages so the canonical signal stays on WP. The second route is what we do, less migration risk but you have to maintain two CMS surfaces.
Whichever path: pull a full Screaming Frog crawl of the WP site before the move, that’s your redirect-map source of truth.
