Hi all,
I couldn’t get a direct answer from the app review team, so I’m repeating the question here. Here it goes:
Is it possible to remove the password from a public app’s demo store? If so, who can I contact about it?
The use-case is that we want to provide direct links within the app, to various demo’s sub-pages to demonstrate the app’s different functionalities.
I know the requirements state that the development store demos remain password protected but the password is not asked when visiting from the app’s page. The same requirements state “Link to the relevant part of the store”, and that’s what we’re trying to do; provide a better preview experience to merchants.
So I was wondering whether it was possible to do something similar to what is done with the theme demo stores, where they are set in a “demo state” that don’t require a password at all.
If that’s not possible, what’s the alternative? Have a demo store on a paid Shopify plan?
It is not possible out of the box. We faced a similar issue with this where we wanted to share our demo store link with brands but they were prompted for a password.
As a result, we built this where you can just give your app’s handle and an (optional) sub page and you get a URL that can be shared without a need for a password.
We use it very often when sharing demo store links with brands.
Thank you very much for your answer.
We’ve already examined the use of the _bt query parameter as a possible workaround, however I couldn’t get an answer (at all) whether such a workaround would violate any of the requirements, if used inside the app’s UI.
I’m sure you’re looking for free, but paying for a Shopify subscription for our demo store has been well worth it for the value of marketing that it brings - especially since you can link to your demo store from the app listing page.
