I receive several offers every week to generate reviews for our app from “real” Shopify stores. Is Shopify aware of this problem that affects the integrity of the entire app store ecosystem and what, if anything, is being done to address it? Is there somewhere that these emails can be forwarded to be investigated and dealt with?
Hi Ron,
Thanks for flagging this here - the Shopify App Store team is aware of this activity and have systems in place to detect and action against fraudulent reviews.
Just following up on this again @ronpadz - our governance team suggested using the Report a partner violation form to forward us details on the emails you’re receiving (eg: email address, links, etc).
Hey, has there been any progress on this? Reporting still seems to go nowhere, and there’s not even an inbox where we can forward these emails. It really feels like the issue isn’t being taken seriously.
This thread is exactly why I built AppCanary.
The fake review service emails are one thing — but the scarier problem is when someone actually starts leaving coordinated 1-star reviews. By the time you notice your rating has dropped, the damage is already done.
AppCanary watches your app listing around the clock and fires an alert the moment it detects an attack pattern — a flood of 1-stars within hours, a sudden rating drop, or a breach below your set threshold. It’s designed specifically for Shopify app developers.
Private beta, 3 months free, full access. If anyone here wants in: appcanary.app or DM me directly.
