Hi,
I’m developing a public Shopify app called WarrantyOps, currently installed only on a development store.
I need access to the Order.email field to verify warranty claims by matching an order number with the customer’s email address.
The app has read_orders and write_orders, and Shopify CLI confirms that these scopes are granted:
Access scopes auto-granted:
read_orders, write_metaobject_definitions, write_metaobjects, write_orders, write_products
However, querying Order.email returns:
“This app is not approved to use the email field.”
I understand that Email is Protected Customer Data and needs to be selected/requested separately.
The Shopify documentation says this should be available under:
Partner Dashboard
→ Apps
→ API access requests
→ Protected customer data access
However, WarrantyOps is using the new Dev Dashboard, and I cannot find “API access requests” or any option to select Protected Customer Data / Email in either the Dev Dashboard or the Partner Dashboard.
The app is currently only installed on my development store, so I’m not trying to submit it for App Store review yet. I only need to enable Email access for development/testing.
Where can I configure Protected Customer Data → Email for a public app using the new Dev Dashboard?
App: WarrantyOps
Dev store: warrantyops-dev.myshopify.com
API version: 2026-07
GraphQL operation: WarrantyOpsCustomerClaimOrder
X-Request-ID: c748a9f5-bc27-4089-a5a3-0e3739d89f50-1788964231
Thanks!
