Hi all, we want to add shopify integration to our online store. We have a partner with a shopify store that wants to be our first affiliate but I was not able to figure out how to work with them while we develop the shopify app. Our goal is to pull their products, inventory level, and prices and links so that we can sell the items. Firstly, it’s not possible to connect with somebody’s shopify store and pull their inventory while developing a partner app. You can no longer (as of Jan 1) invite stores to your app as testers. Only your own development stores can install the partner app.

Next, to create a custom app, you have to log in to their store to create the app. Then you go away and write the app.

Lastly, is this even possible? We want to invite partners to install our app and have their items show up in our online marketplace, show prices and inventory levels, product descriptions etc.

Our strategy now (to create a partner app that multiple shopify stores can install) is to develop it with your dev store and get it approved. Only once the app is shopify approved they can install the app and we can sell their items.

I wish there was a better way as our dev store is nothing like a real store.

Hi there,
I just read your article carefully.
Actually, to pull their inventory from their stores, need to generate admin access token.
And then you can pull their data using admin api, and should login to their stores to get access token.
Of course you should login to their stores to develop custom app and it is possible.

So to create an app that multiple merchants can install, you will need develop a public app, not a custom app. A public app can be developed through the Developer Dashboard of a Partner account. This app can be connected to a development shop for testing, and later installed by multiple merchants.
