RecurringApplicationCharges: application is currently owned by a Shop errors

We still use the RecurringApplicationCharges REST API (yes, we know – we plan on migrating soon) but I just wanted to flag that all of our development apps broke during the migration to the new Dev platform.

In particular it seems any attempt at creating a charge returns the following error:

“base: It appears that this application is currently owned by a Shop. It must be migrated to the Shopify partners area before it can create charges with the API.”

We’re working around this by creating new development apps for the time being, but we can’t find anything in app configuration, etc. that would have caused all of our apps to get “owned by a Shop”. As far as we can tell, all of our apps are part of the Shopify Partners Area.

To be clear, creating new apps still function with the API as expected so we’re just confused as to what sort of internal bit got set on our existing apps.

Hey @ascherkus, I’m moving this over to the dev platform board as what you are seeing seems less like an issue with the billing API.

For your development apps that are returning that error, are they listed as public distribution in the dev dashboard?

When you open your app in the dev dashboard, you should see this in the top right

Found another report here where distribution was the issue:

Hey @ascherkus, I can confirm that the solution here is to set your development apps to public distribution as noted in that other thread. If you still have issues after that, let us know!
