Request to Support More Conversion Tracking Options for Shopify Apps

Hello Shopify Developers,

I would like to raise an important request regarding conversion tracking for Shopify apps.

Currently, app developers need better support for tracking conversions directly from platforms such as Reddit, ChatGPT, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Google Ads conversion actions, and Meta/Facebook Pixel.

One major issue is that GA4 can track the app_install event, but in Meta Events Manager, we are not receiving the same app install event properly. This makes it difficult for app developers to optimize ads and push more quality traffic to our Shopify apps.

Our market really needs better conversion tracking support so developers can measure installs, improve campaigns, and scale app growth more effectively.

Can Shopify please provide guidance or consider adding direct support for these conversion tracking options?

Thank you.

@Liam-Shopify

Please do not tag Shopify staff members that have not already engaged in a topic, this is outlined in the code of conduct.

My concern is attribution tracking. When a user visits through Meta Ads or Google Ads, how can we capture and store click parameters such as fbclid and gclid so we can pass them later with the conversion ads event?

Totally agree with this. We’ve run into the exact same gap between GA4 and Meta Events Manager on app_install tracking. It’s honestly one of the bigger blind spots right now for anyone trying to measure app performance across channels.

Right now we’re stitching together data from multiple dashboards just to get a rough picture of where installs are actually coming from, and that’s not sustainable as more developers start running paid campaigns on Reddit, LinkedIn, and Google Ads. Native, reliable conversion tracking across these platforms would save a lot of manual work and let smaller teams compete on ad optimization the way bigger players already can.

Would love to see this prioritized. Tagging @Liam-Shopify since you’re already looped in, hoping the wider dev support team can take a look too.

100% agreed with @zeeshan_haider statement.

Zeeshan requested for a 100% valid feature. And Shopify must consider it.

@Luke If the Liam is not responsible for taking the actions, then you must tag the staff that are resposible to take the action or raise the voice.

Because this would make the decisions better for Shopify app founders. Shopify app founders cannot spend money on all platform, untill they track which platform is really converting.

No you must not. The rules are clearly outlined in the code of conduct.

So please, do not tag Shopify staff that have not engaged in a thread.

Thanks for your Quick response. I believe in this case contacting the Shopify support is the best way to ask this feature. Let see what the response we get from the Shopify support team.

When a merchant installs the app, the redirect URL is generated by Shopify, but no ad click ID is included. The merchant is redirected to the Shopify store and OAuth screen, so our developers cannot capture the click ID during installation. Once Shopify provides or forwards the click ID, we can handle the remaining tracking and attribution inside our product.

Hey @zeeshan_haider and others, thanks for laying this out clearly.

I’ve passed this along as product feedback on your behalf. There’s no timeline I can share on when or if support for forwarding those click IDs (or broader conversion tracking for app installs) will land, but the request is documented with the details from this thread. Any changes will be noted in the developers changelog :memo:
