Seeking Clarification on App Store Requirement 1.1.2

Hey!

We’re looking for some clarification on requirement 1.1.2 for an app that supports a quote/rental request workflow.

For context:

1.1.2 Use Shopify checkout.

Shopify can’t guarantee the safety or security of an order that’s been placed through an offsite or third party checkout. Apps that bypass checkout or payment processing, or register any transactions through the Shopify API in connection with such activity, are prohibited.

(App Store requirements)

Our customer experience flow consists of two different flows:

  1. Direct checkout
The customer adds products to the cart, selects the rental period, and continues to the checkout.

  2. A quote / rental request
The customer adds products to the cart, selects the rental period and fills in a form.
When the form is submitted, we create a draft order and process the request through our middleware to a designated server, where the merchant can accept or deny the quote / rental request. If the request is accepted, the merchant sends an invoice to the customer through Shopify. The customer then completes the payment using Shopify’s checkout.

Our app was initially denied due to another requirement 5.6.8 but after some back and forth with Shopify they told us it was due to requirement 1.1.2 that our app was denied.

We’re trying to understand what specifically is considered non-compliant with requirement 1.1.2.

As described above, neither of our flows uses an external checkout or third-party payment processor. The direct purchase flow uses Shopify checkout, and the quote/rental request flow ultimately results in a Shopify invoice that is paid through Shopify checkout.

Could someone clarify what part of this workflow would be considered a violation of requirement 1.1.2, and what changes would be required for the app to comply?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!
