Shopify Analytics Inventory value

Hey,

Currently in Shopify Analytics the inventory amount e.g. ending inventory units. Doesn’t explain which state the inventory is, is it Available, On Hand etc.
It would be really useful to get more context or help article to describe each metrics and how its calculated in detail as merchants are using this for their business and so understanding the calculation is critical.

Hey again-again @JordanFinners

For the Month-end inventory value report, we actually define the Ending quantity as the trackable Available inventory quantity at the end of the selected period, rather than On hand inventory. (more info here)

So in inventory-state terms, this is the sellable Available quantity, not the broader On hand quantity. On hand is made up of Available + Committed + Unavailable inventory.

I agree the Analytics field label itself could be clearer here, especially since merchants may reasonably read “ending inventory units” as On hand. I’ll pass that feedback along on our end for sure - let me know if I can add anything else there to the feature request report!

Thanks Alan for the context here and raising it!
Yes I was looking at the ABC report, which doesn’t specify (I assume available) but given the importance being super clear on this in the help doc and ideally some kind of tool tip on the report itself would be really helpful if possible.

Ending quantity The trackable inventory quantity of a product variant at the end of the last day of the selected time period (might be a negative number).

Thanks for confirming @JordanFinners - I’ll pass things along, thanks again for flagging!
