There isn’t a suitable topic for this so apologies..
With Shopify’s own Analytics, is it possible to trigger a “search event” on a Liquid Storefront?
The majority of the shelf themes use the predictive search, it’s quite rare for a customer to hit “enter” and go through to the full search.
A downside of the predictive search is it doesn’t submit any search events.. so the search analytics is bare and the client is adamant that they want the data.
While we can submit the event to GA4, we can’t submit it to Shopify’s own analytics suite which is what they want.
Removing the predictive search would be too much of a hit to customers, and even if I were to migrate to the standard search via Ajax the event doesn’t trigger in that scenario as it appears to be client side instead of server side.
Hey again @ceri_waters - there’s not a way to import/implement this tracking directly into our Analytics functionality, and our standard search_submitted event is only emitted when a full search occurs. Our Analytics Reports currently only allow for fully input searches to be filtered for as well, but I definitely understand it’s not the most ideal situation.
Just out of curiosity, is your merchant client just looking to capture the predictive inputs their customers are looking for so that they can modify things like ads, SEO, etc based on that data? Completely understand how that would be beneficial, so I’m happy to reach out internally to see if we have anything on the roadmap or if I can log a feature request at the very least - hope to hear back from you soon!
No worries @ceri_waters, sounds good, I’ll leave our thread open here for now, but please feel free to ping me here, if you do need to discuss anything more sensitive (like the merchant’s shop name itself, other details), please let me know in the thread and I can send you a DM
