Theme Editor vs. Storefront Mismatch

Short description of issue

On multiple stores, the Theme Editor preview displays the correct output, but the storefront shows an outdated or incorrect version of the same development theme.

Reproduction steps

  1. Open a development theme in Theme Editor.
  2. Confirm that the preview displays correctly.
  3. Open the same theme using View or via its regular storefront URL.
  4. The storefront displays an older/incorrect version.
  5. Open the preview URL with the preview ID; it shows the correct version.

Additional info

  • This does not appear to be cache-related (tested on private windows, different devices/browsers).
  • Happens on multiple, unrelated stores.
  • Only the regular storefront URL is incorrect; preview ID URL is correct.

If this is a known rendering or preview pipeline issue, any clarification would be appreciated.

Bug report

Hey, @okck thanks for reaching out and flagging this.

From what you described, this does seem like unexpected behavior, and I wasn’t able to find any similar reports on this. To clarify, does the storefront eventually “catch up” and show the correct version after some time passes, even without you doing anything?

Since you’ve already ruled out browser cache, I’m curious if this might be related to CDN/server-side caching on our end, where preview URLs bypass the cache but regular storefront URLs are still being served stale content (this can sometimes help). If you’re open to sharing any shop IDs/URLs and the affected themes where this is occurring that would be helpful as well. Let me know if you’d prefer help via DM and I can set that up on my end here.
