I’m not sure what you mean by saying you can’t use CNAME records, as it won’t be able to handle SPF records. However, if you’re looking to connect a custom domain, you can go to https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain/connecting-domains for a complete list of setup instructions from specific domain registrars, including the A record you’re looking for.
if I cname shop, domain, com to whatever, domain, net the spf record will have to be a txt record for whatever, domain, net as per RFC 2181, 10.1 (for example Understanding SPF and CNAME Records for Emails | by adil | Medium - chapter cname and spf record).
spf is critical because mail for store will be sent as something@shop,domain,com
I’ll already saw that help page, they all talk about domain having @ pointed to an A record and www cname to shopify… but I will not have a www (site will be shop, domain, com)
So my question could be rewritten as: it is safe for me to have my shop pointed statically to 23.227.38.65 instead of a canem to shops.myshopify.com?
thx a lot, Luca
(sorry for using , in domain names but this forum does limit domain names in post (???)
if I cname shop to shopify, txt should be set on shopify as per [RFC 2181, 10.1] where a CNAME cannot exist with a TXT on the same record
so my question could be simply translated in: “may I configure shop in my dns to a A record pointing at 23.227.38.65 ? I already know it works because I tried using my local hosts resolution, but will it be safe for the future?”
My own records only show that 23.227.38.65 was introduced 3 years ago? I guess whichever IP is presented on the manual page and you use, you’ll keep it.
Will it be safe in the future and never change?
I’m not sure, but I still have stores statically connected to 23.227.38.2x and 23.227.38.3x for 10 years now
