Short description of issue
URL handles cannot be translated in meta object page – SEO issue for multilingual stores
Reproduction steps
I’m working on a multilingual Shopify store and I’m using Metaobjects published as web pages to generate landing pages dynamically.
I’ve noticed that the URL handle of pages created via Metaobjects cannot be translated.
Specifically:
The Metaobject handle is global and not localizable
Shopify Translate & Adapt allows translating content, but not the URL
All languages share the same handle, only prefixed by /en, /de, etc.
This makes it impossible to create fully localized URLs, which is a clear SEO limitation for international sites
Additional info
Is there any official or workaround solution to localize Metaobject page handles?
Is Shopify planning to support localized handles for Metaobjects?
Is the recommended approach to avoid publishing Metaobjects as pages and instead:
create standard pages in the theme
use Metaobjects only as a content source
translate URLs via Translate & Adapt?
At the moment, Metaobject pages seem great for structure, but risky for SEO in multilingual setups.
Would love to hear if anyone found a solid solution or has insight from Shopify.
