Using pictures from the internet

Hi there,

could someoene maybe explain me how I know which pictures I can use from the internet.

Kind regards,

Hi @Santi this isn’t directly a Shopify development question, but I’ll throw in my two cents anyway since it’s definitely useful.

You can legally use:

Royalty-Free images

  • Burst (by Shopify) is a free stock photo platform with high-quality images for commercial use.
  • Other great options include Unsplash, Pexels, and Pixabay.
  • Always check the license terms, as some images may have restrictions.

Creative Commons (CC)

  • Some images are shared under Creative Commons licenses: CC0 (public domain) means you can use the image without restrictions. CC BY means you can use the image but must give credit to the creator.
  • Wikimedia Commons is a great source of freely usable images, but each image has its own licensing terms.
  • Use the Usage rights filter in Google Image search to find images labeled for reuse.

Licensed Images

  • Platforms like Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, and Getty Images sell high-quality images with clear licensing.

If you’re ever unsure about an image’s rights, the safest bet is to reach out to the owner and ask for permission.
