Using validation functions from custom stores

TLDR: Have custom stores been blocked from using functions, if so when did this come into effect?

Details:

I have a custom store with a cart validation function, I have been able to install these as checkout rules on stores in the past.

I recently tried to enable one on a store and got this error in the UI

An error occurred when creating

I tried to create a checkout validation via the Shopify Graphql App ( Shopify GraphiQL App — Install ) so I could see the full error response.

query:

mutation CreateCheckoutValidation($input: ValidationCreateInput!) {
  validationCreate(validation: $input) {
    validation {
      id
      enabled
      blockOnFailure
    }
    userErrors {
      field
      message
      code
    }
  }
}

response:

{
  "data": {
    "validationCreate": {
      "validation": null,
      "userErrors": [
        {
          "field": ["validation", "functionId"],
          "message": "Custom app function is only eligible for shops on the Shopify Plus plan.",
          "code": "CUSTOM_APP_FUNCTION_NOT_ELIGIBLE"
        }
      ]
    }
  }
}

Hi @a-z, this isn’t a recent change. Custom apps containing Shopify Function APIs have been limited to Shopify Plus stores since Functions were introduced. Stores on other plans can still use Functions through public apps.
