Wondering if it is possible to have a category metafield on the variant? I wanted to have a metafield that is only on a particular product type.
@ChrisBradley I think it is possible. We can define the definition and make its type as Text or dropdown. Or we can use the Dropdown with the Product Type Filter.

@Andrii_Hudimov Did play around for a little bit and cant see to make it work.
Thinking about it in details, category is set at product level, so really metaobjects are linked to the product level and would be the same at the variant level
@ChrisBradley Yes, you can add a custom metafield on ProductVariant but Shopify’s standard category & taxonomy metafields are product-level only 
so they can not be scoped to variants.
For the variant-level category data, use a custom metafield is a better choice.
