Weird UI behavior with the Select Polaris Component

As you can see on the screenshot, the selector appears on top left of the screen, I first saw that on my app, both development and prod and then thought maybe I’m the only one, so I opened the same component in Polaris website, and found out the same behavior. I’m using google chrome, can anyone check this please.

I just want to confirm if its everyone on chrome or just me that has this Ui behavior. Thanks

Update: the UI looks normal when opening it on firefox.

All my extensions are disabled and my google chrome version is the latest.

If this issue was happening to all Shopify apps that integrated Polaris Select, I think there would be a ton of noise about it here on the forums.

I personally use the Select component too and have never experienced this issue.

Perhaps there’s some Chrome Extension on your browser causing the issue?

Have you tried Chrome Guest mode? I find that even better than Incognito.

all my extensions are off, I tried on chrome incognito mode and it doesn’t work.

could you please tell me if this works on your chrome session tab? are you able to display the component correctly on the polaris web page?

Yes, it works correctly.

For reference this is the exact URL I’m testing with: Select — Shopify Polaris React

Perhaps you could share yours so we can tell if it’s a different page?

Using the same one, I just opened the page using your link and it had the same effect, this is weird.

I have the latest version of Chrome and I’m using 0 extensions right now everything is disabled.

It might not be software related.

What device are you using? What’s the size of the viewport?

Lenovo with Ubuntu as OS, 15 inches screen, I never had this problem since I started coding with Polaris in early 2024, but now out of a sudden this Selector component is misbehaving.

Ah Linux.

That’s a very important detail to know.

You’re not actually using Chrome, but Chromium. It’s not the same browser exactly.

This is because Chrome is closed source and proprietary, Chromium is the OSS version.

There may be some issue with the compatibility of Chromium with this component, but I wouldn’t count on it becoming a high priority of the Polaris team to address. Most consumers / merchants are not using Linux.

it’s sad that there is no solution for this, but it is what it is I guess.

Thanks for taking the time with my issue!

Hello @bontalexel31 ,

The select dropdown issue you mentioned occurs only on Ubuntu OS with Chrome. I’m not sure why, but I was able to identify it.

If you try using another browser or operating system, it should work properly.
