Hi all,
We read the new bot filtering article (Shopify Help Center | Bot filtering in Shopify analytics and reports) with interest. Automated sign-ups and checkouts are a real problem for our merchants, because they create customer records that aren’t real people.
Here’s what we found: the ShopifyQL sessions dataset has a human_or_bot_session dimension that apps can read through shopifyqlQuery (with read_reports and Level 2 protected customer data). As far as we can tell, the verdict isn’t available anywhere else.
Our questions:
-
Are there plans to expose the human/bot verdict at event time, for example on web pixel events (a field on the event or in init.context)?
-
Or on the Customer or Order objects, or in webhook payloads (for example, whether the checkout came from a bot-classified session)?
-
If ShopifyQL is the only route, is session_id in the sessions dataset meant to be joinable to anything an app can see, such as the pixel’s clientId?
Even a per-customer verdict would help merchants tell bots from real customers without guessing. Thanks!
