AI First? Make the "fake review" support emails stop :)

Hi Shopify team,

You’ve said Shopify is going AI firs, here’s an easy win: filter out the constant spam emails offering fake reviews and installs.

Suggestions:

  1. Use AI to detect and block these messages before they reach us.
  2. Hide our support email from public app listings.

There are also spam issues with fake orders and account creation as i flagged here.

Are you receiving these emails via the contact surfaces in Shopify, or are they direct emails to your support email (assuming they are likely scraped from the public app listings)?

I’m happy to pass on these suggestions for you.

They used to mostly come directly to the support email (scraped from the app store listing I’m guessing).

Now, more frequently coming in via the contact form on the listing or fake stores installing and contacting that way.

I’m going to send you a DM for some specifics that I can pass on to our app teams. For the public display of your email, I’ll submit that suggestion for sure.

For using the contact form to send spam I’d like to make sure our team is aware this is happening.

Generally though, the best route for this is to use the report a merchant form as that will go through the appropriate channels.

Reporting back here - no improvements to date. Some days getting 3 of these coming through.

I got 6 through overnight - all from ‘Partners’.

Hey Daryl, same thing I asked Olly here, have you noticed an increase lately from before, or was there a decrease at anytime between your initial post and now?

If you can help me identify any new behaviours or anything new in these ones coming through that maybe wasn’t in past emails I will definitely pass that on to our security teams.

No change really - it’s up and down. A couple yesterday, and a couple today. Can go a few days without getting any, then a few more will come through. Today’s example:
