App listing name requirement

Hi Shopify Team,

We recently submitted our first app for the Built for Shopify program and received some great feedback on a few minor issues. However, we’re facing a challenge with one specific piece of feedback regarding our app listing name:

There is an App Store Requirement that your app listing name cannot be a generic description of your app’s functionality. Please update your app listing name to something unique.

The issue is that our app has had the same name since it was originally approved for the Shopify App Store. Over time, we’ve invested significant effort and resources into promoting this name, building brand recognition, and establishing our presence within the Shopify ecosystem. Changing the name at this stage would be incredibly detrimental to our business and confusing for our existing users.

We understand the importance of maintaining a consistent standard across app listings. However, we are wondering if there are any exemptions to this policy for apps like ours, which have names that were already approved by Shopify and have been in use for a significant period.

Hey @Joe1 :waving_hand:t5: I’m from the BFS Team, we are reevaluating this requirement at the moment so you can disregard that point regarding the generic name. Please note this may change in the future but a heads-up will be given.

After you’ve wrapped up the other updates, please go ahead and deploy them to production and resubmit your app. We’ll then review it to make sure everything is in order.
