I’ve noticed that some apps like Okendo and Junip have the Built for Shopify (BFS) badge, even though their apps are non-embedded their dashboard is only in Shopify and in that they have added an Open Plantform link which is opening their non-embedded app. I’m curious to understand how this is possible, as we’re facing a similar challenge.
Our app also doesn’t fit within the Shopify embedded view due to handling large amounts of data, so I’d love to know if anyone has insights on how these apps meet BFS requirements while remaining non-embedded.
I can’t speak to individual apps, but I can confirm that being an embedded app is a current requirement for applying to receive Built for Shopify status.
They might have qualifed before that requirement was set.
But I believe the BFS team does re-certifications on a schedule, so they may qualify now but that doesn’t mean they’ll continue to qualify for BFS in the future if they don’t comply.
Per current documentation (Built for Shopify requirements), the app itself must be integrated but there are exceptions for certain functionalities to be opened separately without being embedded.
