Built for Shopify Status Removed Without Warning - New Category-Specific Criteria Applied Early?

Our Built for Shopify status has been removed without prior warning following yesterday’s acknowledged system error where Shopify sent false alerts about performance metrics showing as 0.

The removal email states this could be due to:

  • Missing criteria that result in immediate loss of status
  • Necessary updates not completed within 60 days

Here’s what I’m seeing:

  • The standard performance criteria checks are working again
  • However, new category-specific criteria (scheduled for July 2025) appear to have been applied to our app
  • Our app was fully compliant before yesterday’s false alert
  • Nothing has changed on our end
  • Status was removed without the typical 60-day warning period

This seems to be a cascading issue from yesterday’s system error, compounded by early enforcement of criteria that shouldn’t be active until July 2025.

Has anyone else got their Built for Shopify status removed without warning?

Hey Andreas, The team is currently investigating this. It appears that a call to the Fulfillment API triggered an immediate flag for unmet requirements.

To prevent this from happening in the future, the team updating the system to include a 60-day grace period for new rules being applied to apps.

Do you know when affected apps will have their Built for Shopify status restored? Since this was a system error, I’m hoping we won’t need to go through a new review process. Would appreciate if this could be resolved quickly as it’s impacting our business.

There won’t need to be a new review process - we’re currently working on restoring Built for Shopify status for affected apps now.

We’ve just experienced the same - a sudden removal of our Built for Shopify status, along with an email citing:

We’re currently under Built for Shopify review and have received several change requests from the Shopify team. Each request was addressed and submitted within just a few days, so we’re confident there wasn’t any single criterion left unresolved beyond the 60-day window.

We’d really appreciate clarification from the Shopify team to confirm whether this removal might have been a mistake — and if so, what the expected timeline is for resolving it.

It’s been 5 days since our Built for Shopify status was removed, and it’s still not restored.

Any update on restoration timeline? This is significantly impacting our business - we’re losing App Store visibility and customers are asking about the missing badge.

  • Merchants questioning our app’s quality without the badge

Great news - our Built for Shopify status has been restored! Thank you so much for your help with this issue.

Our app store rankings have recovered to nearly pre-incident levels, which is fantastic.

One remaining item: we’re still missing from the Shopify editorial guide “How to find the best apps” where we were previously featured: Built for Shopify apps | Shopify App Store

Would it be possible to have our inclusion in this guide reinstated as well? That would fully restore us to our previous state.
