My app is a bundle app. Many Indian stores are using third-party checkout, which cannot support the cart transformation API.
Can we have a way to exclude these stores on the Appstore? Just like excluding the stores from certain countries.
This creates a confusion because these users always think our app is not working. But the truth is that their checkout cannot work with the Shopify functions. I don’t think this is a fault of these checkout apps either.
Also, the cart transformation API is a requirement for BFS, if the app belongs to product bundles category. That’s why I think this experience is not good.
And I don’t know how to serve these users if all shopify checkout related features are not available. As a Shopify app developer, I don’t know how to support third party checkouts.
Hi Benny,
Many Indian stores are using third-party checkout, which cannot support the cart transformation API.
Do you mean these stores are bypassing the regular Shopify checkout? Can you link me to one of these stores?
Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it as there are strict rules from Shopify about using 3rd party checkouts and I believe it’s not allowed except for a few exceptions?
Since custom checkout would not be able to report it’s usage to Shopify anyway, you wouldn’t be able to detect it from API point of view either.
I see I can’t even reach the checkout to test without a phone number to validate:
It’s possible this store is directing users to a third-party checkout that is not permitted on Shopify.
If a store is using a 3rd party checkout, what is the recommended action as a partner?
Should I ask the store to switch back to Shopify checkout since this is not permitted?
There is nothing you need to action on - please don’t recommend that the merchant should make changes.
However if they reach out to you, you can say that if your app does not have the ability to access the expected checkout on their store, then it is not supported on that store.
Can we have a way to exclude these stores on the Appstore? Just like excluding the stores from certain countries.
I don’t believe this ability exists today, but I’ll double check.
