Cannot load POS extension in dev after switching to another app or screen auto-lock

I am using Google Pixel 7 with Android 16, the POS app build version is 10.12.2. My Shopify CLI is 3.85.5 (latest at the moment). My POS UI extension API version is 2025-10 (also latest).

When I start the dev mode with CLI, I can scan the QR code to preview the app. However, the extension force closes with an error when I switch to another Android app or the screen is auto-locked.

It makes my development work hard because the dev mode always exits after a while.

What makes the dev preview closing so easily? Why can’t the preview be persisted? Is it because of the CLI or the use of Android device?

To confirm, theres no errors in your extension code?

What makes the dev preview closing so easily? Why can’t the preview be persisted? Is it because of the CLI or the use of Android device?

Please update yourPOS app to 10.13. We’ve recently rolled out developer experience improvements which include persistence, you can read more about it here.
