Hi, my existing app is not getting traction, can I just change it directly to a different app or do I need to create a new app and apply for approval again?
The Shopify team can correct me if I’m wrong but pretty certain you will need to create a new app.
Hey @Gaurav_Agarwal it depends on the extent of the changes you’re planning. You can update your existing app’s code, name, and listing at any time. Routine updates and feature additions don’t require going through review again.
The thing to watch for is that Shopify’s best practices docs state that apps which no longer reflect the original core functionality submitted to the App Store will be re-evaluated and need to be resubmitted for a full app review. So if you’re turning an SEO tool into a loyalty program, for example, that would trigger re-review.
If the new app is substantially different, you’d probably find it simpler to create a new app and submit it fresh. Your existing reviews and ratings stay tied to the old listing and wouldn’t be relevant to the new functionality anyway. Both paths are open to you, and the app requirements checklist applies either way.
