We continue to try to keep within the base Shopify eco-system. We only get apps when we can’t get what we want from Shopify Admin. I recently came across this in the 2026-01 update to Graphql API:
”New return reason definitions: You can now use the new ReturnReasonDefinition type to capture more granular, category-specific return reasons when managing returns. This replaces the previous ReturnReason on the Return object that is included on triggers related to returns. The returnCreate and returnRequest mutations also accept this field as an input when using the mutation in a Send Admin API request action.”
I dug a little deeper and found that at least the intent is to allow us to define our own Return Reasons (which would be amazing for our store.). But while looking in the location in settings (supposely settings→policies→manage rules) I don’t see the option for that. Is this something that is being developed for Shopify Admin? Or is this another money-grab to try to force us Advanced users to pay 10x per month…?
