Feature request - ability to move admin blocks higher on collection page

Hi, we started working with admin blocks for our app that let’s merchants manage their collections. It’s an app block that integrates on the admin’s collection page and what stroke us is the inability of putting the block higher on the page.

At the moment it sits at the very bottom of the page, below the list of products, below the metafields, below the search engine listing. That means the user has to scroll a lot to see it, for an admin block that would actually add has a lot of value for them. At the moment it gives very little value to the admin block and we’re not sure it’s worth it spending too much development time working on it until the block can be put higher on the page.

Ideally it should be between the description and the product list:

We have a few merchants actively asking for that.

Thank you in advance for considering this feature request.

Hi @Alan_G Sorry to bother you with a mention, but it seems this post has been missed by the shopify staff and I’d like to make sure it reaches the team.

Also I wanted to add that anywhere on the right column would also be a good alternative:

Hey @Soufiane_Ghzal - thanks for flagging this, no need to apologize for the mention at all, we do generally ask that folks don’t ping specific people, but I’m happy to look at this.

I definitely get where you’re coming from here though, having the block sit below everything on the page isn’t super ideal, especially if the block itself is something merchants would be interacting with regularly.

I’m happy to log a feature request for this. Just to make sure I capture as much detail as possible for the team, could you share a bit more about the specific workflow your block is helping with on the collection page? Is it just essentially as you said that the earliest they can see the block is too far down?

Let me know if I can clarify anything on our end here!

Hi @Alan_G thank you for your answer!

Our app makes the collections fully managed by the app based on the filters defined by the merchants.

Think of it as a smart collection with more features and managed by an external app.

Some users asked to have a better way to quickly figure out whether a collection is managed by the app when they visit the Shopify’s native collection page.

The app also adds a parent/child hierarchy between collections, we will soon display this information as well.

Finally we have plans to display some of the app’s related settings directly in the admin block, such as a summary of the filters they’ve configured.

When a collection is managed by the app, these app’s information become as important as the title or the description for some merchants, that’s why it would be super helpful to be able to show them higher on the page.

Please let me know if you need further information or clarifications.

Hey @Soufiane_Ghzal - thanks for the extra detail, that’s really helpful.

The use case makes a lot of sense, especially with the collection management context and the parent/child hierarchy integration you’re planning. I can see how having the block buried at the bottom of the page would undercut the value of surfacing that info in the admin to begin with. If the block is showing whether a collection is app-managed and what
filters are configured, that’s the kind of thing merchants would want to see right away, not after scrolling past everything else.

I can’t guarantee anything in terms of if or when changes would get rolled out, but the detail you’ve shared here is exactly the kind of thing that helps when these requests get reviewed, so I appreciate you taking the time to lay it out.

Let me know if I can help out further!
