Feature Request: Disable Customer self-service email address updates

As of October 8, 2025 Customers can now update their own email address – Super awesome, particularly for DTC builds.

Can we get an option onto the roadmap to disable this on a store? It’s particularly problematic for B2B builds where we’re controlling this data in an ERP, with a number of business controls and integration dependencies that don’t lend themselves well to this.

Hey @Colby - thanks for flagging. I can’t guarantee anything, but happy to pass this along. Out of curiosity, would subscribing to a customers/update webhook help with this?

Just wondering what limitations you’re running into or if it’s just the difficulty of orchestrating the changes with the external ERP. Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks @Alan_G !

In theory, it could help in a reactive manner if the merchants wanted to update their upstream systems – but they don’t want to do that. They want to retain control there due to a number of operational and legal agreements in place with their customers that they don’t want circumvented.

The (new-ish) current state created a technical issue (which can be remediated with engineering - as you rightly called out), but also a business challenge in this case.

No worries @Colby , makes sense. Yeah, a webhook would be more reactive, rather than preventative for sure.

One thing that might help depending on the setup: if your merchants are on Plus and using a third-party identity provider, customers actually can’t update their email from the account page. Could be worth exploring if they already have an IDP in place or are open to it.

That said, I totally get that a simple toggle to disable self-service email edits would be the cleaner solution for B2B. I’ll flag this internally, can’t promise anything on timeline but it’s valid feedback. Thanks for taking the time to explain the use case!

Yes, that’s right. We’re not using a third party IDP… and these clients aren’t open to it. Hard to justify the cost and overhead. Happy to discuss further if needed!

Thanks so much @Alan_G !

No worries @Colby, just confirming we have your feedback logged, let me know if I can help with anything else.
