Improve poor Search UX for modal vs search page

Short description of issue

Improve poor Search UX for modal & search page

Reproduction steps

Search for product in modal vs search page.

Additional info

The current customer UX for search is poorer than Dawn and not taking full advantage of Shopify’s search functionality.

Merchants can be losing out because results are only based on product/content titles rather than descriptions. Furthermore, there is no prompt to search the store.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Improve no results wording & make it more positive - “No results found for “{{ term }}”. Try another search”.
  2. Add link/button to search throughout site

Recommendations:

  1. Ideally search entire store should be default, with options to disable content areas.
e.g. Add theme settings & functionality along the lines of Search: “Show only product results” or settings to enable/disable search per content area.
  2. Suggested search terms only come up when a user starts to type. Consider including this by default. Theme settings to disable.
  3. Suggested prompts show in modal, that’s one step away from including this within Search results page.
