Incorrect/Explain the payment calculation

Hi,

Original order amount is : 1497

Return Shipping fee: 5

Refund amount (after deducting shipping fee) : 160.33

Why shopify display outstanding Balance of 10.00 ? Please help me understand this. This order is created using bundled items, it works fine with normal order items.

Hey @Maulik_Shah_RAB - this looks like it’s related to how the return is being processed rather than an API issue per se.

From what I can see in your screenshot, the kr10.00 “unauthorized” balance likely relates to fees associated with the return that haven’t been captured yet. The banner at the top saying “A return is in progress and the order balance may change once processed” is the key here - this is a transitional state while the return is open. Once the return is fully processed/closed, the balance should resolve.

A few possibilities for why you’re seeing this:

  • The return shipping fee (kr5.00) is showing as part of the outstanding balance until the return completes

  • With bundled items, the price allocation across components uses a weighted algorithm based on component prices, which can sometimes cause the numbers to look unexpected during partial refunds

That said, I’d need to see the actual order data to give you a definitive answer on what’s happening here. For questions about order financials and payment calculations like this, your best bet is to contact Shopify Support directly - they can pull up the order and give you a proper breakdown of where the kr10.00 is coming from.

Also worth noting - this forum is primarily for API and developer tool questions. For general questions about order management, returns, and payment calculations in the admin, you’ll get better help on the Shopify Community forums where there are more merchants and support staff who deal with these day-to-day.
