Is there a shadow banning on App Store?

Hey everyone. Few months ago I started working team them improve their apps rankings.

Two of the apps are performing great, and I can see the change in rankings after getting a review, or updating the app details.

However, the established app is completely flat lining. No matter if we get new review, or update the store listing, the rankings won’t move at all.

I’m trying to investigate if there was some penalty from Shopify side, but dashboard shows nothing.

Now, the app hasn’t been updated for a while. Still uses AppBridge v2 and ScriptTags so I’m suspecting this could be one of the reasons.

Has anyone experienced similar issue? I’m curious how to fix it.

Thanks

Hey @goranculibrk - thanks for reaching out. I was able to speak with some folks on our side here and can confirm that there’s no shadow banning/algorithmic deranking on our side when it comes to apps using older APIs etc.

That said, for transparency, we do “bump” visibility for Built for Shopify Apps:

There’s a bit more info on the BFS program here, but when it comes to affected visibility, this is mainly for search results in the app store where we offer BFS preferential ranking over non-BFS apps. Hope this helps a little bit, please let me know if I can clarify anything on my end here
