Longer App Store Review Times: What You Need to Know

Just added my own 2-cents here. I converted my private app to an unlisted one so I could install it on multiple stores. All the app does is create a custom discount, a simple cart transform, and create some metafields. I have no intention of publicly distributing our app and just plan on running on our own stores. My app status has been “We’re assigning a reviewer to your submission“ for over 3 weeks now and I’ve been waiting for over 5 weeks total so far. Not great

Shopify, some suggestions:

  1. This is clearly a long-running issue. Maybe consider hiring more people for this process?
  2. Provide a queue position or review ETA so developers know a timeframe. If I’m told it’ll be 3 months to review my app, so be it. At least I know. If this number continues to change, frustrating but again, at least I know. Not know if my app will get approved tomorrow or by the end of the year makes it extremely difficult.
  3. Provide another avenue for your developers creating unlisted apps. If the app is not going to be publicly distributed and developers just plan on using it themselves, give them an easier, quicker path to approval. Then, if they want to make it public, then make them jump through these additional hoops.

I have submitted my app 5 weeks ago and still nothing. The submission email still said review up to 14 business days even though you must have known by then that it takes much more than that. What stops you from improving your communication ?

It’s been 50 days since this post… Here we are still waiting, with no communication. A backlog is understandable. The silence is not.

While it’s understandable that reviewing such a high volume of applications can be a complex and demanding process, the current review timelines feel significantly longer than expected, especially given the lack of communication. For a platform relied upon by hundreds of thousands of users, it would be beneficial to introduce more efficient, possibly automated, review mechanisms or at least provide developers with regular updates on the status of their app submissions.

We submitted our app on the 10th of March and still waiting. Over 5 weeks now without any progress. Very frustrating.

Same problem….
The process has been going on for 2-3 months now and it takes over a month for a reviewer to even take a look at the app to be just give vague rejection reasons.
And it’s ridiculous that during that time the review process has not been improved, but has rather gotten even worse…

Hi everyone (@here),

I just wanted to share that we have released some new improvements to the App Review Process, with new AI tools for self-review to help catch any issues before submission, and more details about app review submissions displayed in the Partner Dashboard.

For more information and any questions about this, please refer to the following Forum Thread:

Hey guys, so what is the actual estimated time before apps get picked up for review? Submitted 1 April, still waiting for a reviewer to be assigned. Can anyone who has recently had a reviewer assigned comment on the time it took from submission to first review?

Hi team,

My name is Lucas, and I submitted my app AgilizaCEP (Partner Organization: Evolve Soluções Tecnológicas) for its initial review on March 11, 2026. At the time of submission, I was given an estimated timeline of 2 weeks, but I have not received any feedback or reviewer assignment since then — now, more than 5 weeks later. I completely understand that the team is handling a high volume of submissions at the moment, and I respect that process.

However, I want to be transparent about the impact this delay is causing. I have a client whose store launch depends entirely on the approval of this app, and this prolonged wait is putting that business relationship at serious risk. I am not asking to skip the queue. I simply want to make sure my submission is on the team’s radar and ask whether there is any update on when a reviewer may be assigned to AgilizaCEP.

Thank you for everything you do and for taking the time to read this. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, this is Umair, Co-Founder & CEO of PixelOne.

PixelOne is an independent omnichannel startup built for eCommerce businesses to streamline their operations under one platform. Previously, we relied on a legacy method to obtain secret tokens for fetching customers’ orders, products, and other required data to onboard them automatically, and then keep everything in sync via webhooks.

However, following Shopify’s recent updates, that process has been completely deprecated. The only way to access tokens now is through a public app. We submitted our app, PixelOne, over 10 weeks ago, yet it is still neither reviewed nor approved.

This delay is causing serious damage to our business. A significant number of our customers—many of whom rely on Shopify—have already left after waiting in queue for over a month. Our onboarding pipeline is blocked, our system operations are severely impacted, and we are incurring losses on a daily basis.

Despite contacting customer support more than 12 times, there has been no meaningful resolution or timeline provided.

This situation is unacceptable. We urgently require immediate attention to this matter. Please prioritize the review and approval of our app so we can resume normal operations. The continued delay is critically affecting our startup, and we cannot sustain this for much longer.
