Mantle has announced that they are shutting down their product, with all services ending August 14, 2026 (September 30 for billing customers). Mantle’s statement confirms a full shutdown and explicitly notes that the product is not being sold or transferred.
At this point, Shopify has made no official announcement regarding Mantle, nor have they indicated any acquisition, transition plan, or continuity strategy. There is no communication from Shopify suggesting that Mantle’s shutdown is part of a coordinated platform roadmap.
This creates a real gap for app developers.
Many of us adopted Mantle because it provided the missing operational layer on top of Shopify’s Managed Pricing / App Pricing system — plan catalogs, entitlements, usage visibility, subscription state, migration tooling, and admin UI. Shopify App Pricing is the long‑term direction, but today it is still incomplete: discounts, usage charge parity, subscription migration tooling, partner dashboard visibility, and several billing primitives are still in active development.
Because Mantle is shutting down before App Pricing is fully ready, developers are now forced back onto the legacy Billing API to manage interim billing logic — something Mantle previously abstracted away. If Mantle continued operating, we could wait until App Pricing reached functional parity and migrate cleanly. Instead, we’re left with an unexpected gap and no official guidance.
We would like Shopify to provide an official statement clarifying:
-
whether Mantle’s shutdown is coordinated with Shopify
-
whether Shopify intends to replace Mantle’s missing functionality
-
whether partners should expect interim Billing API usage
-
whether App Pricing timelines or migration tooling will be accelerated
Until Shopify provides clarity, the only supported billing path is Shopify App Pricing — but it is not yet complete enough to replace Mantle’s functionality. As a result, developers must temporarily implement billing logic themselves using the legacy Billing API.
September 30th is not far off.
