The Liquid receipt code editor retires on 1 January 2027, and migrating to the block editor loses a capability that has no replacement. Flagging it as a deprecation-forced regression rather than a feature request.
Setup. Dutch bottle deposit (statiegeld) is a legally required fee, added by a Cart Transform function via lineExpand. Each eligible cart line becomes [product, fee] components. On the printed receipt every component renders as a full line item plus a “Part of: ” caption.
A single beer therefore prints roughly eleven lines: product title and price, the “Part of” caption, the deposit line, and its own “Part of” caption repeating the same long product title. A four-item basket runs very long on 80mm paper.
What the code editor could do. line-items.liquid filtered the deposit rows out entirely:
{% for line_item in order.line_items limit: 250 %}
{% unless line_item.name contains ‘statiegeld’ %}
... item rendering ...
{% endunless %}
{% endfor %}
**What the block editor offers.** The Content block exposes around twelve toggles — compare-at price, SKU, quantity on single items, per-line tax, sales attribution, order note, total box and so on — but none for the line-item group caption, and none for custom attributes. The Content block itself has no visibility control, so it cannot be hidden and rebuilt either. A Custom Liquid block is additive only and is restricted to p, br, strong, em, headings and lists.
Worth reporting separately: table markup in a Custom Liquid block fails silently. Saving returns success, the tags are stripped, and a literal "tr>" prints on the customer receipt with no validation error shown.
**Ask.** Two toggles in the Content block:
1. Show line-item group caption (the "Part of: ..." line)
2. Show tax summary table
The first restores exactly what the code editor could do. The second matters for merchants whose VAT display is already handled elsewhere on the receipt.
Any app-based workaround is ruled out: POS UI extensions expose only `pos.receipt-header.block.render` and `pos.receipt-footer.block.render`, so nothing can reach the item list.
This will affect every merchant using a bundle-producing app — deposits, eco-fees, warranties, product bundles — who is migrated off the code editor before 1 January 2027.
