Hi everyone,
I’m trying to customize the Shopify POS receipt Liquid template. I had previously edited the receipt template without any issues, but now I can’t find the option to edit it anymore.
Has Shopify changed or removed the POS receipt Liquid template editing feature recently?
If it has been moved somewhere else, or if there’s a new way to customize the POS receipt template, could someone point me in the right direction?
I’d especially like to know if this is related to a recent Shopify update, a change in plan/permissions, or if the customization method has changed.
Thanks!
Hi @Aravind_R! The POS receipt code editor is being replaced with a receipt visual editor. Once the visual editor is activated for a store, the code editor is removed and can’t be restored, and any store that hasn’t switched by January 1, 2027 is migrated automatically.
If you had custom Liquid in your printed receipt template, most of it migrates to the visual editor automatically. For anything that doesn’t carry over, the migration guide walks through doing it manually. You can still add Liquid in the visual editor through custom Liquid blocks in the receipt header and footer, which covers most of what people used the code editor for (order details, metafields, barcodes, dynamic messages).
There are two other things to check in case something else is going on:
- The code editor is only available to locations on the POS Pro subscription. If your location’s plan changed, the option would disappear too.
- It’s not available for locations in Italy or France at all.
I hope this helps!
Thanks for the clarification! This clears things up. I appreciate the details on the new visual editor and the migration process.
