We want to put up a Coming Soon page for a client while we work on the full website. This will allow people to enter their email so they can be notified when the client is up and running.
I know I can create the store in the partner platform and transfer it to the client so the coming soon page is live.
The next step would be to create a new store to develop the full website, integrate all of the apps, build custom meta objects, add all of the product data, etc. But how do I publish all of that to the live website when we are done? Can I “transfer to client” to overwrite the “coming soon” piece?
Is there a different process used to go from “dev” to “live”?
Yes, you can create the “Coming Soon” page on a Shopify store via the Partner Dashboard and transfer it to the client so it’s live. However, once a store is transferred, you can’t “overwrite” it by transferring another development store. Shopify doesn’t allow merging or replacing an existing store with another.
Recommended Approach:
Use the Same Store for Development
Instead of creating a second store, use the same store where the Coming Soon page is live.
Work on a separate unpublished theme while the Coming Soon page remains active.
You can develop everything (apps, metaobjects, product data) without affecting the live page.
