Shopify app install compatibility

We noticed today that our app is tagged as ‘Not compatible’ for users on a Shopify ‘free trial’ plan. Is this something that changed recently? If so, when was it launched?

Was able to fix this by changing the sales channel requirements.

  • the original setting was “My app requires> Shopify online store,”
  • when I changed it to “My app doesn’t require the Shopify Online Store or Shopify POS” the “Not compatible” tag disappeared.

Is it possible the shop was on a free trial for the ‘Starter’ or ‘Retail’ plan? Since these plans don’t include full access to the Shopify Online Store, I believe this would be the expected behavior based on your previous settings.

Please review the documentation :

Thank you for pointing that out. However, this behavior wasn’t the case a couple of months ago. We conducted similar tests with free trial stores in the past, and the “not compatible” tag wasn’t present then. I’m curious to know when this change was implemented, as it may have impacted our app installs.

Could you confirm if there have been recent updates to how free trial stores or certain plans interact with third-party apps? This insight would be really helpful for us.

Hey Jessie,

Thanks for flagging this - our teams are looking into this now.

Update: it does look like our team shipped a change recently that should resolve this @Jessie_Simon can you check if you’re still experiencing this issue?

Sounds like it may have been an unintended side effect of this update:
