UPDATE ISSUE: Trialing Multiple Presets

When trialing presets for themes, if there is already a preset from that theme, a second or third preset will not load. No error messaging, it just quietly fails. I still do not know the names of all the presets for many ‘popular’ themes, so I was not expecting this issue, even after reviewing what presets were already in this store.

Even though I was aware of this issue, this still caused me a lot of confusion until I remembered why it was occurring. Merchants will be lost, especially if a themes presets are all within the same industry.

This issue is still occurring.

Given the main goal of this update was to move to presets, this is a critical bug and the fact it hasn’t even been addressed/acknowledged let alone fixed is ridiculous. It’s now been almost 2 months since the theme store update.

How many merchants have not been able to install a preset they wish to trial?

@Alan_G are you able to please confirm if the team is working on this?

Hey @Ian_Townsend and @rainbird - thanks for flagging this and for the ping. I haven’t seen any other reports of this behaviour, but I am for sure happy to look into this further. Would you be able to share a screen recording of what you’re seeing just so that I can try to replicate it accurately in the theme store on my end as well.

Once I have that, I’ll get in touch with our product team for you ASAP and we’ll get this looked at. Hope to hear from you soon

Thanks for the eyes Alan. There is not much to see via a screen recording, since there is no error provided, it just doesn’t do anything. To replicate:

If all presets are supposed to be an individual entity, opposed to 1 theme, each should be installable on their own.

@Ian_Townsend - thanks for describing the replication steps there. I think I’m seeing what you’re seeing now. Essentially, if I already have a trial of a certain theme, even if I try to install another preset style for that same theme, it just seems to route me back to the theme section of my shop’s Admin in the Online Store menu?

Just wanted to make sure that’s the right replication here - happy to bring this to our product team to confirm next steps though, it does seem odd.

Your description is correct. Merchants should be able to add each preset. A prime example of why this would be important is if a theme has 2 presets in 1 category. At a bare minimum, there should be some indication that only 1 preset can be trialed at a time

Hi Alan

Thanks for getting back to me.

Here’s a screen recording:

Thanks folks, really appreciate the confirmation @Ian_Townsend and the video @rainbird - I’ll get in touch with our product team for you and loop back once I have next steps to share.

Hi again all :waving_hand: , I was able to touch base with our product team pretty quickly here, and can confirm this issue is something our engineering teams are aware of. I can’t guarantee a turnaround time for a fix/what a fix would look like or if we will enable multiple presets to be installed, but did want to share that it’s on our radar and some work has been done on this.

I’ll keep my eye on things and let you know in this thread when a fix has been pushed/if I can share an update with any more info. Thanks again for flagging this, it’s really appreciated.

@Alan_G any update on this?

See example from our support inbox. Merchants have no idea why there is an error.

Hey @rainbird , thanks for sending that our way. I still don’t have a concrete update on this, but I have been in contact with some folks internally to discuss this. I’ll keep you up to date here and share that feedback from the merchant. Really appreciate your patience on this.

Hi all - following up here with an update. I was able to raise this internally, and wanted to confirm that we are aware of this as a known limitation at the moment. I don’t have any concrete info to share in terms of a fix/more information on what resolving this will look like, but I did want to let you know this is known on our end and we are aware of the limitation.

Thanks again for your patience, I definitely know it’s not the most ideal response, so please let me know if I can clarify anything on my end here or if I can help out further.

@Alan_G - Thanks for the update. I feel like the issue shouldn’t be marked as solved when it isn’t?

May I second Jonathan’s point. It would be great to leave this post open, so we can keep an eye on it. The trial process really is fundamental for themes so any changes in the process or user interface for merchants are key.

Any updates available?
