Why Is Address Autocomplete Not Available for Romania at Shopify Checkout?

I noticed that address autocomplete at checkout does not appear to be available for customers in Romania.

For Romanian addresses, customers need to enter their street, city, county, and postal code manually. This can create checkout friction, increase the risk of incorrect address details, and potentially lead to failed or delayed deliveries.

Is there a technical or provider-related reason why Romania is not currently supported by Shopify’s address autocomplete feature?

Are there any plans to add support for Romanian addresses in the future? It would also be helpful to know whether there is an official workaround or supported third-party solution that can enable address autocomplete directly within the Shopify checkout.

We don’t have autocomplete available for Romania at checkout because we lack sufficient quality address data for Romania. It’s better to let customers enter their address manually rather than risk autocompleting an inaccurate one.

For Shopify Plus merchants, a workaround is to use a Checkout UI extension to connect a custom address autocomplete provider.

That said, I’ve submitted a feature request on your behalf so that native address autocomplete support for Romania can be considered.
