[Android] POS unable to type into fields in URL tiles

Hi there,

Reporting a bug on behalf of a merchant I work with. They make use of URL tiles to interact with our embedded Shopify app and others.

Since yesterday, when opening a URL tile, the web browser overlay is unable to select and type into any text field. This effectively breaks them from being able to use our app.

They’re using Shopify POS Android v10.14.2 build 167003

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The merchant is using multiple URL tiles to open different embedded Shopify apps. They are reporting all Shopify POS Android WebViews are unable to type into any text field on any arbitrary URL.

So you should be able to reproduce the issue on a simple google.com URL and try opening the search text field and observe that the keyboard doesn’t trigger.

I had him also test opening our embedded app with an regular Chrome browser on the tablet, and he had no issue with typing into the text fields on our embedded Shopify app’s URL.

If you still have issues recreating the issue with a simple google.com URL tile, just let me know. I just think that repro set up is much more simple than having to install our app, set it up, etc.

Were you able to recreate the issue? Has it been fixed on a newer Android Shopify POS version?

Yes, we managed to reproduce the issue and identified the root cause. The beta flag causing it was disabled earlier this week, so it should be resolved now. Please force close and reopen the POS app if it persists. We’ll include a permanent fix in an upcoming POS Android release.
