Like most apps we get a lot of scammers and solicitors installing. Historically Shopify has refused to do anything about these stores (yet they’re requiring me and other devs to provided their government-issued id! ) so we have put various measures in place to handle these cases. Of course, nothing is perfect. The store from India or Vietnam that signed up for a free trial 5 minutes before installing could be legit. One of the fallbacks our staff has used to monitor/double-check the scammer/solicitor measures is app install count. For example, if it increases by 2 or 3 within a 10–30 minutes this is a sign that banned shops are creating new shops and installing again.
Now I understand our use case for having install count on the App Distribution page may be unique, but it’s a small column on a page that otherwise has only 3 headings and I can’t understand why it’s removed.
I noticed this too @sshaw. I believe Shopify has removed install data from the Partners Dashboard, as it’s now shown within the new(ish) Dev Dashboard.
EDIT: That said, there doesn’t seem to be a way to see app history per store outside of things like events and other log types, so there’s no way to see how many times a single shop has installed/uninstalled an app in the UI, which is the point of your post…
One thing I noticed is the install count shown on the dev dashboard is ~100 installs more than what was shown on the prior page! Ugh. More Dev Dashboard changes! Is anyone asking for these? Though I do admit, I was not/am not a fan of the new Dev Dashboard but having the webhook request log is nice
I think seeing a consolidated view of installs on an index page is better experience.
They’ve also moved revenue and other metrics to the dev dashboard.
I think this makes absolutely no sense.
If you are a business owner with a developer team, there is never a scenario you would ever want your finance team to be accessing the dev dashboard and never a scenario you would ever want your developer team to be looking at revenue data.
Exactly. This is basic product management. Shopify needs to add this to their initial interview phone screen when hiring product managers and maybe we wouldn’t have things like: Destroying trust in App Store reviews - proof enclosed
The installation count in the Dev dashboard is also abbreviated. (it shows 1.2k instead of 1234)
I want to see the exact installation count (so that I can know if there’s a sudden surge of installation, mostly for fraud / competitors checking), I want to see 1234, not 1.2k .
