Hi friends, I wanted to share an update on our end:
In order to unblock folks as fast as possible, we’re bringing back the chart on Partners dashboard → App overview that shows current installs on active shops. You’ll see this in production very shortly.
We’re continuing to prioritize granular filtering on install/uninstall data on the Dev Dashboard side. I’ll continue to share updates and progress in the coming weeks.
For complete transparency on our roadmap: the aim is to unify the experience for app builders around the Dev Dashboard. This means phasing out all app building/monitoring activities on the Partners Dashboard.
Regarding metrics specifically: our primary aim here is more transparency and user control. The old Partners experience defined “Active” shops on its own dimensions (namely paying plans + active trials). This was useful, but subject to bias and did not meet the full breadth of user needs. The intent with Dev Dashboard is to show raw data transparently, and to support deep filtering of data such that users can build out and save their own segments according to what views/information they need most. We’re working hard to get this out.
Thanks again for the feedback and patience here. Please continue to tell us what’s important, and where we can improve.
Appreciate the complete transparency. That’s something that most of shopify project don’t give us
Please don’t leave us in a halfway situation when you release something new and it’s not replacing what exists 100%.
If you need insights, we’re happy to provide feedbacks early during the development phase. We’re the ones we use the tool. So with all my respect for you, we do know what we need to work with shopify, and often it seems that the outcome is disconnected from the real need.
Also if you plan to move everything to the dev dashboard - please add a light theme. Many people including myself can’t handle dark themes, that’s not a matter of liking it or not, it’s physiological. Not everyone’s eyes built the same: New dev plateform - dark theme - #7 by Soufiane_Ghzal
@Soufiane_Ghzal I hear you. Let me see what we can do around making our early access program more obvious and accessible – that is a lever we can pull to get more feedback from y’all.
Light theme is coming in the next few weeks too, FYI.
I’m going to push for this preview as well. Having some sort of awareness of what you want to do and even when would be preferable and give us a chance to provide feedback prior to go-live. Slapping stuff in production without any sort of feedback from partners is probably going to continue to be open to backlash like this. It’s not the “change is bad” situation you may be thinking of… instead it’s “change is ok, but loss in productivity is brutal”.
Have you considered a partner-chosen “opt-in” to new changes that would allow us to provide feedback and switch to opt-out temporarily such as to maintain productivity?
@Doug_P we did run a 2-month early access program for the new Dev Dash experience and collected feedback. We can certainly look into larger and broader cohorts moving forward.
Interesting - and no feedback like this was received? I would like to be a part of that preview so I can see what’s coming in and provide you feedback. How can we make that happen?
Also, @Ryan_Bahan - You said you were bringing back the chart - it’s back, but the other two key pieces were installs and uninstalls and those are still missing. It’s not just the chart that is being used.
What kind of users do you collect feedbacks from? Because in the case it’s mainly big agency platinum partners, they will have their own internal tools to do their stuff differently than we do.
Also are you sure they approved the fact that you remove half of the tool in one platform and the other platform has half of the other tools? Because nobody likes jumping between two platform to get all the info
Our early access is not exclusive to agency/plus partners – we certainly want to collect feedback from all our users. We will do broader outreach in the future and note the interested parties in this thread.
@Doug_P you’re correct that export and active merchant functionality have been re-added to Partners dashboard, and the raw install/uninstall counts are in Dev dashboard. We’re working on bringing this all into Dev dashboard.
Ran into the same jump. What helped me was having the numbers logged somewhere outside the dashboard so I could see whether installs actually moved or just got recounted. I use Letsmetrix for that - keeps a steady history of installs vs active merchants regardless of what the Partners page shows on a given day. Handy exactly for weeks like this one.
We have been using this for the past 5 days and see that the page is refreshed every time the window/tab receives the focus and ~30–40% of the time the stats do not load:
There must be something wrong in the feedback collection, I’d bet my money that a controlled group would never prefer the new dashboard over the old one.
Perharps they were just asked the wrong questions or they were asked about the old dev dashboad which was not as useful as the old dashboard?
Haven’t seen a fix for the per-app case yet. The Shopify staff’s replies above cover the general rollout, so it might be worth tagging him with your app ID. In the meantime, you can still get the data from the Partner API or from your own uninstall webhook logs. Or i think you can use Letsmetrix, which pulls this from your Partner account.
I agree that having the exact install count visible is useful, especially when managing multiple apps.
For me, the important part isn’t only the total number of installs, but being able to quickly compare changes over a short period and identify unusual install/uninstall activity. Having the exact count directly on the app list made that much easier without opening each app individually.
It would be great if the new Dev Dashboard could retain the exact active merchant count while also providing the raw install/uninstall data for deeper analysis.
