App paused for "Include test credentials" | WhatsApp/Meta-integrated app, can't provide Facebook login

Hi all,

My app submission is paused with a reason “Include test credentials”.

In the app, merchants connect their own WhatsApp Business Account through Meta’s Embedded Signup flow using their own Facebook login. I can’t provide Facebook credentials for review because sharing a Facebook account with a third party violates Meta’s Terms of Service, and it’s not how real merchants use the app either.

So what I’ve already done to make review possible without facebook login:

  • A “Connect Test WhatsApp” button that provisions a pre-configured sandbox WABA with zero Meta signup, no Facebook login, and no OTP
  • Step-by-step testing instructions walking through install → connect test WABA → send a test message
  • A demo screencast of the full flow
  • Checked the “My app doesn’t require an account to use it” option in the listing because I can’t provide Facebook Login credentials

Despite this, the submission was paused for missing credentials.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks

Hi @anilcngz,

I would recommend providing the additional context that you’ve shared here, directly with the App Store Review team, either through the new App Review discussion in the Partner Dashboard under App > Distribution, or by replying to the email you received from the App Review Team if your app review was submitted prior to the App Review changes.

For more info on the new App Review changes, including discussing app reviews directly in the Partner Dashboard, you can refer to the following post:

Hi @Kellan-Shopify

There is an interesting situation with my app submission. So the review is made after the new App Review updates. But still in App Store Review as you can see below, there is no way to respond to the reviewer as described in App Store review updates: New tools to speed up submissions and under App > Distribution there is no App Review discussion

and in email it says “Please don’t reply to this email. This email was sent from an address that does not accept replies.”

What should I do?

Hi @anilcngz,

In this case I would recommend reaching out to our Support Team directly, via the Shopify Help Center, while logged into your partner account, and we can help look into this in a fully authenticated support interaction, and we can reach out to our App Store Review team to help look into this further if needed.

Posting in case any Shopify folks are watching, and for anyone hitting the same wall.

Per Kellan’s suggestion, I opened a support case 2 weeks ago. The reply has stayed at “credentials required, including facebook”, despite the sandbox WABA button, screencast, and detailed test instructions we ship which let reviewers test the entire app end to end without going through facebook embedded signup flow (the same embedded signup flow the official WhatsApp app on store)

Today I tried to comply by creating a dedicated facebook test account but meta disabled it within minutes.

One question I’d genuinely appreciate clarification on: Shopify’s own test-account guidelines list “accounts that require two factor authentication” in the DON’T column. Meta now mandates 2FA on any account with Business Manager access, which is required to manage a WABA. So the credentials being requested seem to fall directly into the category Shopify tells developers not to provide. Is there a different interpretation I’m missing?

Question for the community: has anyone shipped a Shopify app integrating Meta’s Embedded Signup flow (WhatsApp / Instagram / Messenger) and gotten through App Review? What did you provide as test credentials?
