App Submission rejected and 1 month suspension for what we believe is a reviewer error

Hi!

First of all sorry maybe for the dumb question. Our app got rejected two times already, and the first two are totally on us, and we own it. We waited 14 days for the app re-submission suspension to be lifted and re-submitted with the fixes implemented. However, we got rejected again. And this time we believe is a reviewer error.

After creating a widget, in our UI you need to click on “Install on shopify” as we support multiple widgets for different apps and without this step we don’t know what widget you want installed in what integration. This was shown step-by-step in the submission video. But the reviewer just enabled the embedded widget in the shopify theme but didn’t click on “Install in shopify” in our own app’s UI.

Now we are banned for 1 month while we got customers waiting for their integration. Is there any way we can get re-reviewed our we can appeal the rejection?

App ID is 387709304833

Hi,

Not a dumb question, and I’m sorry - three rejections with customers waiting is a rough place to be.

I got approved recently, and the thing that nearly sank me was the same shape as yours. My reviewer installed, opened the app, looked at pricing three times, and left without ever running the core action. Not because it was broken - because the path to it wasn’t obvious enough to someone seeing it for the first time with no context.

That reframed it for me. If a reviewer with written instructions and a video doesn’t click the button, the button isn’t discoverable enough. They’re not a bad tester - they’re the most
honest first-time user you will ever get, and they’re telling you something real about your onboarding.

On the appeal: reply directly to the rejection email rather than resubmitting. Ask for clarification on that specific step and state plainly that the action was documented in the submission video. In my experience they do respond to a specific, factual question. Don’t argue the rejection - ask what they’d need to see.

But I’d spend the month on the flow, not the appeal. If “Install on Shopify” is required and nothing happens without it, the app shouldn’t sit there silently. Some options:

  • If the theme embed is enabled but no widget is linked, show
that state in your UI explicitly, with the button as the only
    next step
  • Block or warn on the theme-embed side when nothing is linked
  • Make it the primary action on first load, not a step in a list

The version of this that passes is the one where the reviewer can’t miss it, not the one where the instructions explain it better.

Good luck. Three rounds is demoralising but it’s not unusual, and the fixes at this stage are usually smaller than they feel.
