Confused about migration to new Dev Dashboard

I went through the changelog and also watched the video on the announcement page, but honestly, the video felt very fast and a bit confusing. I’m still not clear on what exactly I need to do.

My app has extension (theme extensions), When I run shopify app deploy, I get asked to select between two accounts, one is Dev and the other is my existing Partner account. Since my app is still in the old Partner Dashboard, I’m not sure in which account I should be running the deploy command.

Also, I saw some developers on Twitter mentioning that they’ve already migrated their apps. How exactly are they doing this? Is there a manual way to migrate, or do we have to wait until Shopify automatically moves our apps over?

On top of that:

  • I don’t see Admin Insights in the new Dev Dashboard.
  • I can’t delete created apps there.
  • Overall, the new Dev Dashboard feels like it has fewer features than the old Partner Dashboard. I don’t understand why is shopify pushing it if it lacks basic features at the moemnt

So my questions are:

  1. Do I need to take any action now, or only after Shopify migrates my apps?
  2. Which account should I be choosing when I run shopify app deploy?

Would really appreciate some clarity here because I’m a bit lost with the transition.

  1. Do I need to take any action now, or only after Shopify migrates my apps?

We’re migrated existing apps to the new platform gradually, you don’t need to do any manual migration yourself.

  1. Which account should I be choosing when I run shopify app deploy?

You can choose either depending on whether you want to use the new platform or the older one. Once your partner organization is migrated you will only have the option for the new platform.

  1. I don’t see Admin Insights in the new Dev Dashboard.

Admin Insights remain in the Partner Dashboard for apps that are distributed (public or custom).

  1. I can’t delete created apps there.

We will be adding this feature in. Right now it’s not possible to delete apps.
