I found how to make this modification, but my question is: Is there a way to automatically redirect all the traffic from my current URL to the new one once the change is made?
Or should we manually modify EVERY place where we’re using the URL, and any traffic that uses the “old” URL (https://apps.shopify.com/shopify-1) will be lost?
Can someone advise me on this?
Thanks!
This is possible, but it does require reaching out to our support team. They will be able to help set up a redirect from your previous handle to the new handle.
This way you won’t lose that traffic you’ve worked hard to build up to the old handle.
Consider the scenario where an app goes through some rebranding but don’t want to lose all of their past link building efforts or have to go through the manual process to find all the sources and ask them to update. This is an easy way to help partners retain that work.
In case you’re worried about “handle squatting” or similar shady practices, any redirects are ultimately applied manually by our app store team.
Thank you @KyleG-Shopify !! This is definitely great news.
@Luke, I guess the previous URL can’t be used by anyone else in the future, the old and the new ones are “blocked” for use.
But if your URL contains your specific brand name (as in my case), why would anyone attempt to use it, right? That shouldn’t happen.
@KyleG-Shopify how can I get in touch with the support team to make this change? I asked on the Partner’s chat before and they said it couldn’t be done
You can connect with partner support via the “Support” tab on your partner dashboard, or via the Shopify Help Center. Next time you’re asking them you can link to this forum post to provide additional context on this case.
