Shopify sitemap not being fetched by Google Search Console (works in Bing)

I’m facing an issue with my Shopify store sitemap not being fetched by Google Search Console, even though everything seems correctly configured.

Site: https://ethicalorigins.eu

Sitemap: https://ethicalorigins.eu/sitemap.xml

Platform: Shopify

What’s happening:

I submitted my sitemap (/sitemap.xml) in Google Search Console

Status shows: “Couldn’t fetch” / “Sitemap could not be read”

However, the same sitemap works fine in Bing Webmaster Tools

**
What I’ve already checked:**

Sitemap is accessible in browser (loads correctly)

robots.txt exists and includes sitemap reference

No noindex tag on sitemap or pages

Website is live and publicly accessible (no password protection)

Additional notes:

- Shopify-generated sitemap includes multiple child sitemaps (products, pages, collections, blogs, localized versions)

- No obvious crawl restrictions or blocking mechanisms detected

Questions:

Why would Google fail to fetch a sitemap that Bing can read without issues?

Are there known issues related to Shopify sitemap structure or Googlebot-specific access issues?

Any insights would be appreciated.

Hey @Ethical-origins, here’s our guide on finding and submitting your sitemap which covers the full GSC setup. A few things from there worth double-checking given what you’re seeing:

  • Domain verification - Google requires ownership verification before it’ll fetch a submitted sitemap.
  • International domains - You mentioned localized sitemaps, so if you’re using international domains, each one needs its own GSC property and its own sitemap submission.
  • Fetch errors - Google’s own Search Console Help has troubleshooting steps specific to fetch failures that are worth running through as well.

Hope that helps.
