Unauthorized Message and Suspicious Activity: Need Clarification

I recently received a message from someone claiming to be a Shopify staff member regarding a gift. Shortly after, I received a courier, which I assumed was from Shopify. However, I had to pay the full price for the product upon delivery.

When I contacted Shopify support to confirm, they told me that Shopify always communicates via email and never uses email addresses ending in @gmail.com. They also clarified that they had no record of sending such a gift or message

I also raised concerns about how my details, which I had shared with a verified Shopify staff member, could have been accessed by someone else. Shopify assured me that their communication is strictly through official email channels and does not involve community messages.

I’m very unhappy with this situation. Shopify has offered to create a detailed report to investigate the issue further, but I wanted to post this here to warn others and prevent similar incidents from happening.

I will also share screenshots of the messages I received for better clarity.

Liam is a genuine Shopify staff member. Personally, I wouldn’t go by what Shopify Support say - they won’t have a clue about this, its not an area they’d most likely have access to.
