Apple Pay Domain Verification File Update - Shopify is Serving the File But Support Says They Can't Help

Hi Shopify Developer Community,

I’m hoping someone here has dealt with this issue before. I need to update an existing Apple Pay domain verification file, but I’m getting conflicting information from support.

The Situation:

  • Need to update Apple Pay domain verification for payment processor integration
  • File currently exists and works at: /.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
  • File was created several months ago and needs new verification code from Apple

Technical Evidence That Shopify IS Managing This File: When I inspect the file, the response headers clearly show:

x-shopid: [store-id]
x-sorting-hat-shopid: [store-id]
shopify-edge-ip: [ip-address]
content-security-policy: ...services/apple_pay/merchants...

The Problem: Shopify support keeps telling me to upload the file through my domain registrar or CDN provider, but:

  1. The headers prove Shopify is serving this file through their Apple Pay service
  2. Both my domain registrar and CDN provider say they don’t manage this file
  3. The file already exists in Shopify’s system - it just needs the content updated

Questions for the Community:

  1. Has anyone successfully updated an Apple Pay verification file that’s already managed by Shopify?
  2. Is there a hidden admin section or API endpoint for managing these files?
  3. Which specific team at Shopify handles Apple Pay domain verification updates?
  4. Has anyone else experienced this “support runaround” where each provider points to another?

What I’ve Tried:

  • Multiple support tickets with technical evidence
  • Contacting domain registrar (they don’t serve the file)
  • Contacting CDN provider (they don’t serve the file)
  • Checking all Shopify admin sections (no file management found)

Current Status: Apple Pay is broken because the verification file is outdated. The irony is that Shopify already has the infrastructure to serve this file - I just need someone who knows how to update the content.

Any help, insights, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

@Liam-Shopify sorry to tag you but its been over a day without responses, and over two weeks of attempts with customer support. The file already exists but has an outdated code that simply needs to be updated.

Nothing we tried worked. We had to switch to Shop Pay.
